Balasore: Two days after a girl of a minority community was shot dead allegedly by her boyfriend for refusing to marry him at Golapol under Sahadevkhunta police limits, the police arrested the youth and his father Monday.
The accused were identified as Sheikh Datt (19) alias Mamun and his father Sheikh Mazid.
The father-son duo was produced in a court. They were earlier detained over a complaint filed by the girl’s relatives.
The girl, a Class IX student of Majid Gali in Arada Bazaar, was shot dead by Mamun Saturday night. Mamun had kidnapped the girl December 3 and returned home with her December 22.
He took the girl to his house Saturday and allegedly insisted that she marry him. As the girl did not agree to the proposal, the boy shot her dead around 10pm, it was alleged.
When the boy’s father heard the commotion he came to the spot and the duo dumped the body on the roadside. Some locals saw them and informed the police.
Police swung into action and seized the body.
IIC Subhranshu Nayak and sub-inspector Narendranath Sutar said the accused shot the girl dead when the later refused to marry the former.
However, the police are yet to recover the weapon used in the crime.
