Mahanadi, Prabhari issues raised in LS

Parliament

New Delhi: The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) Tuesday raked up the contentious issues of Mahanadi and the Prabhari system under NITI Aayog in the Lok Sabha.
Referring to the remark on Prabhari system, Cuttack MP Bhartruhari Mahtab (BJD) said, “The NITI Aayog is behaving in an arbitrary manner and insulting the states. Orissa, Kerala and West Bengal have refrained from signing NITI’s MoUs regarding backward districts development works through prabharis.”
Mahtab also reminded that there is distribution of power that is not within the jurisdiction of the Union government and castigated the Centre for unilaterally taking the decision of deputing prabharis. He accused the Union govt of bypassing the state Chief Secretary and other elected representatives.
The BJD MP also took a dig at the Centre for not forming a Tribunal on Mahanadi water dispute and accused the government of backtracking on their stand in the Supreme Court and asked the Centre in the House to pave way for formation of the Tribunal.
He even accused the NDA government of not working towards cooperative federalism and taking the route of vigilantism.
