Cuttack: There was a narrow shave for patients, doctors, medical staff as well as visitors when fire broke out in the surgery department of SCB Medical College and Hospital here, Thursday.
Quick intervention by the firefighters prevented the fire from spreading. Otherwise the situation could have turned worse.
The fire broke out inside one of the operation theatres. However, the exact cause of it is yet to be known. Fire department officials stated that they are looking into the matter. One of them however, said that the fire might have occurred due to short circuit. Luckily, there was no surgery going on when the flames erupted.
It should be mentioned here that in a major fire disaster at the SUM Hospital more than 20 people were killed in October 2016.
