Bhubaneswar: The Dormant State, a work of political fiction based on Orissa, written by Dibya Satpathy, was released at a programme at IDCOL Auditorium here, Wednesday.
Dibya, a Major in the Indian Army who is posted in Lucknow, says he was always inspired by writing. He has been a regular contributor to journals in India and abroad. The Dormant State is his first work and he says he has been happy with response from readers.
“When I was pursuing a degree in mass communication in Mumbai, I used to write plays and other works of fiction. Fiction has always attracted me,” Dibya said.
“People often ask me how a soldier developed a love for writing. It is all about interest. Lots of things happen in the society which an individual experiences and wants to express. Writing is one of the best ways to express ourselves,” he added.
About why he chose to write political fiction, he said: “I thought issues which are reflected in the book are quite relevant. Nowadays there are many writers of love stories but contemporary issues about which I have written are there in the subconscious of every youth but they get subdued because they do not get platforms for expression. I believe many would relate with the book once they read it.”
Dibya further said: “This is political fiction set against the backdrop of Orissa. It deals with issues which people would be able to relate to. The protagonist is faced with certain gruesome realities of governance in the country. His youthful exuberance and provocative circumstances leave him with no option but to take on the system.”
The book launch was attended by actor-director Prasanta Nanda, Dr LN Kar, and former HoD of English of Utkal University Prafulla Mohanty. PNN
