Sambalpur: Demanding removal of Minister of State for Home, Dibya Shankar Mishra, for his alleged links with the prime accused Gobinda Sahu, in the pre-planned murder of school teacher Mamita Meher, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is observing a 12-hour bandh in Sambalpur district Tuesday.
The saffron party has also been demanding a CBI probe into the case and immediate release of Rs 50 lakh compensation to the deceased lady teacher’s family.

The dawn to dusk bandh has thrown normal life out of gear in Sambalpur district. All shops, markets, government and private institutions have remained closed since morning. Vehicular movement was off the road. The party leaders and workers were seen blocking National Highway-53, disrupting traffic between Sambalpur and other districts like Deogarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh and Cuttack.
Similarly, the party workers in Kuchinda, Rengali, Hirakud, Burla and other places were seen picketing at strategic locations. To maintain law and order situation in the district, police have been deployed in various parts of the district. However, essential services were exempted from the purview of the bandh.
Notably, the BJP had already observed 12-hour Kalahandi and Bolangir bandhs over the same demands October 20 and 21 respectively.
