Man arrested for beating wife to death in Sambalpur

Sambalpur, Jan 27: Police Monday arrested Lalit Khadia (36) of Karlagudia village under Rengali police limits in this district on the charge of beating his wife to death. A case has been registered under relevant sections of IPC and the accused produced in a court the same day, police said.

Police reports said, the accused, a daily labourer, got married to Tulasi Khadia (32) of Dengsargi Shukhapada village under Ainthapali police limits six years back. Tulasi had remained unwell after delivery of her daughter and often failed to perform household chores. Lalit used to torture her over the issue.

Sunday, Lalit, after Saraswati Puja celebration late night, came home and asked Tulasi to serve him food. The former started beating her with a lathi as the latter couldn’t prepare food due to her illness. The accused also tried to kill Pankajini Kharsel, Tulasi’s younger sister, who was present that day, the police report said, adding, the latter managed to save her life. However, Pankajini found her elder sister dead when she came back next day and lodged a complaint against her brother-in-law at Ainthapali police station. Acting on the complaint, police registered a case and arrested the accused following an investigation.
