Nabarangpur: Local cops arrested a man for impregnating a minor girl on pretext of marriage in Papadahandi area of Nabarangpur district.
The accused has been identified as Rajeev Majhi of Ghusurabedha village.
According to a source, Majhi established physical relations with the class-VII 12-year-old girl student on pretext of marriage. The incident came to fore after the girl became pregnant.
Unable to hide the symptoms of pregnancy, she confided about the incident with her family following which her mother lodged a complaint with the police.
Later, the police arrested Majhi acting on the complaint lodged by the mother of the minor.
“We have arrested the accused under the POCSO Act and various other sections of the IPC. The man and the minor girl were sent for medical examination. Further investigation into the issue is underway,” a police official familiar with the investigation said.
It may be mentioned here that minor pregnancy is quite common in tribal dominated backward districts of the state. Back in July, the issue rocked the Assembly for days after a number of teen pregnancy issues surfaced from various places of the state.
