Bhubaneswar, Sept 21: A collection agent of a private company was robbed of `12 lakh and attacked with a sharp weapon near Big Baazar under Infocity police limits Monday afternoon.
Biranchi Barik, who works for Radiant Cash Management Services, sustained serious injuries on his head and was admitted to KIMS Hospital. He was attacked by two bike-borne miscreants when he was on his way to deposit the cash at the Bank of India branch at Kanan Vihar, Phase-II, on his motorcycle (OR- 02- AH- 6863), said police. The attack took place right in front of the bank and the assailants fled with the cash Barik had in a bag, eyewitnesses said.
The special squad of the commissionerate police along with a scientific team and Infocity police station inspector-in-charge Manoj Samant reached the spot and began investigations. The scientific team collected blood samples from the place where Barik was attacked, police said.
Police sources said Barik had been a victim of such an attack earlier, too, when `10 lakh was looted from him at gunpoint near Patia Big Bazaar in December last year.
