Badabil: A 30-year-old man died allegedly after being assaulted by his brother-in-law during a family dispute at Burusahi under Badabil police limits in Kendujhar district Friday night. Police arrested the accused, Ajay Tiria, and forwarded him to court Saturday.
The deceased, Banamali Munda, had allegedly assaulted his wife, Sukamati Tuesday night and fled. After he returned two days later, Sukamati informed her mother Saraswati Tiria and brother Ajay about his assault, following which they reportedly went to Banamali’s house Friday night to settle the matter.
An argument broke out between Banamali and Ajay and he allegedly slapped Banamali twice, causing him to lose balance and fall against a door frame. Banamali suffered an ear injury and bled but was not taken to hospital.
He died around 3 am, prompting Ajay to flee the spot. Police seized the body and sent it for post-mortem. A scientific team assisted in the investigation. Acting on information, police traced and arrested Ajay from Champua.
A murder case (426/2026) was registered on a complaint, said investigating officer Barada Prasanna Sahu.
