Shergarh, May 2: A man died in Pital hospital under the block in Ganjam district due to the absence of an allopathic doctor triggering tension in the premises of the medical centre.
Dwitikrushna Panda of Santoshpur village was admitted to the hospital Friday evening. As there was no doctor in the hospital to treat the patient immediately, Jena died there.
Locals thronged the hospital and tension erupted when news of the death spread. The situation was normalised after the intervention of some local leaders.
The residents alleged that the only allopathic doctor in the hospital was posted in another hospital 15 days ago after he got his promotion. The hospital is currently run by a single homoeopathic doctor.
The locals had apprised the district health department of the problem and requested it to appoint an allopathic doctor in the hospital with immediate effect. However, the health department took no measures to appoint a doctor in the hospital.
When contacted, Pital Sarpanch Krushna Chandra Mallick said he will apprise the Chief Minister of the matter if the vacant posts of doctors are not filled within the next five days.
He added that there should be two allopathic doctors in the hospital. But for a long period, the hospital was run by a single allopathic doctor, who was also transferred.
