Man drowns in Mahanadi while taking bath at Gadagadia ghat in Cuttack

Cuttack: A man drowned in Mahanadi river Thursday while taking a bath at Gadagadia ghat in Odisha’s Cuttack, a source said.

The deceased was identified as Jagannath Nayak from Sutahata Upar Sahi area in Cuttack city. He is survived by his wife and daughter.

According to the source, the mishap took place while Nayak was taking a bath at Gadagadia ghat in the morning. He was swept away by the swirling waters of Mahanadi and went missing as his feet slipped.

On being informed, a joint team comprising Cantonment police and Fire Services personnel launched a rescue operation.

They later retrieved Nayak’s body from the river.

Family members of the deceased claimed that Nayak was suffering from mental ailments for the last few days and was under medication.
