Sambalpur: Sabitri Brata turned into a day of mourning for a family in Sambalpur today after a man was electrocuted to death while trying to save his wife and domestic help.
A resident of Commissioner Colony near Dhanupali here was electrocuted while two others were rendered critical Tuesday , the day of Savitri Brata. The deceased was Brundaban Pradhan. His wife Sarojini and domestic help Jagnyaseni Sahu were admitted to the district hospital.
Jagnyaseni was spreading clothes on a wire to dry it on the house’s terrace. A wet cloth came in contact with a live electric wire. She received shock and fell on the ground. Hearing her scream, Pradhan and his wife rushed to the scene. In a rescue effort, they too came in contact with the live wire. Pradhan died on the sport, while his wife was seriously injured.
Police sent the body for post-mortem. The incident spread a pall of gloom in the area.
