A social media user shared an interesting incident in which a tiny wireless earbud slipped out of his pocket and landed in the gravel, prompting him to turn to artificial intelligence (AI) for help. In a Reddit post, the user said he spent around 10 minutes searching for the missing device before asking ChatGPT for assistance. To his surprise, the AI model helped him locate it in less than five minutes. Sharing screenshots of the experience, the user explained that he had been wearing his Bose wireless earbuds when one fell out of his hoodie.
Since the earbuds do not fully activate or connect to a phone until they detect that they are being worn, conventional tricks, such as playing loud audio through a Bluetooth connection, were not an option. The user added that he initially tried looking for the earbud himself but soon realised how difficult the task would be, given the surroundings. “There’s basically no way I’m going to find a tiny white earbud in a sea of white gravel,” he said. “I use ChatGPT for a lot of stuff, and it suddenly dawned on me to ask it for help instead of pointlessly scanning the area myself,” the user wrote. “It didn’t even take five minutes, and I’ll be damned, it actually found it. I genuinely don’t think I ever would’ve found it without ChatGPT,” they added.
According to the user, ChatGPT analysed the photograph and pinpointed the exact spot where the missing earbud was lying among the gravel. The user was then able to retrieve the device, bringing the search to an end. The entire process, from uploading the photograph to locating and recovering the earbud, took less than five minutes, turning an otherwise frustrating search into an unexpected demonstration of how AI-powered image analysis can help solve everyday problems. The post garnered over 2,800 upvotes and hundreds of comments, with users discussing ChatGPT’s improved image recognition capabilities.
“Most people are not realising just how clever they can be when you’ve responded well to the proactive behaviour,” one user commented, noting that ChatGPT can zoom in on images, examine specific areas and apply techniques to identify hard-to-spot objects. “Would love to read your prompt. I tend to ramble when using speech-to-text, and I need to build a prompt that stays concise while covering every theme or point I make and helps clarify each one. Your prompt might show me how to do that,” another user wrote. “I’m tired of people pretending AI is useless just because some people use it for pointless s**t (just like the internet, to be fair). Damn, what a brilliant use of AI,” a third user commented.
