Man hacks father to death; held

Bargarh: A youth axed his father to death in their house over a family feud and subsequently tried to bury the body in bid to erase evidence, reports said Monday.

The incident has been reported from Tarava under Padmapur sub-division in the district in the wee hours of Monday. The deceased has been identified as Parsuram Sahu, 75, father of the accused Kampal Sahu, 38.

The incident occurred in the absence of other family members who were away for work, reports said. The matter came to light after a few villagers barged into his house suspecting something fishy.

According to sources, the father-son duo broke out in an altercation over a family feud. Things took an ugly turn when accused Kampal took an axe and hacked his father in a fit of anger.

Coming back to his senses after the gruesome act, he tried to erase evidence by digging a pit in the house and burying the body. However, neighbours suspected after hearing noises from the house and sneaked in to find Kampal digging a pit while his father’s blood-soaked body was lying inside the room.

Angry locals overpowered Kampal and kept him under custody after informing the cops. On receipt of information, police reached the village and arrested Kampal.

The body was seized and sent for autopsy while a further probe was underway.
