Odagaon: In a bone-chilling incident, a man reportedly hacked his wife to death with an axe over a family dispute at Bhaliadihi village under Sarankula police limits in Nayagarh district Saturday.
The accused was identified as Jugal Kishore Palei (35), the husband of the deceased Hasina Bisoyi.
Jugal, son of Sudam Palei, was married to Hasina, daughter of Karunakar Bisoyi of Dimisar village 12 years ago. There were frequent bouts of fight between the couple, sources said. At several instances, Jugal assaulted Hasina and mercilessly beat her up in an inebriated state. He inflicted both physical and mental torture on her and often forced her to leave his house.
Village meetings were called many a time to solve the dispute between the couple. However, Jugal continued to torture Hasina. Failing to bear the torture anymore, she left for her parents’ house and resided there for three months ago.
Meanwhile, Jugal requested Hasina to come back to her a few days ago. On the fateful day, a fight broke out between the two. In a fit of rage, Jugal took an axe and hit Hasina’s head leading to her death on the spot. Police seized the body and sent it for post-mortem to Nayagarh district headquarters hospital.
Jugal surrendered to police after committing the crime. Police seized the axe and arrested Jugal’s father and mother in this regard. A case of murder was registered over a complaint by Hasina’s father and an investigation was launched. PNN
