Nimapara: A man was forwarded to court on charges of harassing and threatening his wife for dowry, under Nimapara police limits here Wednesday.
The accused was identified as Ajay Kumar Basantara.
According to sources, Jayasmita Pradhan, daughter of late Prasanna Pradhan, a resident of Alasankha village under Ramchandi police limits here, had a love marriage with Ajay, son of Banamali Basantara of Balighat area, around seven years ago.
However, after some years of marriage, Jayasmita’s in-laws demanded Rs 2 lakh more dowry and started to torture her mentally and physically.
Jaysmita was being unable to tolerate the torture.
She was staying at a rented house in Amalapada village with her 5-year-old son.
On the basis of complaint lodged by Jayasmita, Nimapara police arrested Ajay Tuesday on charges of harassing her for dowry.
Police registered a case (61/19) against Jayasmita’s in-laws and Ajay was taken into custody after his bail plea was rejected by the court.
