Man hurls acid on wife

Birajakhetra: A woman sustained critical burn injuries after her husband threw acid on her suspecting her fidelity at Malapada village under Sadar police limits of Jajpur district, Saturday.
The survivor sustained burn injuries on her face and back and was rescued by locals who admitted her to the Jajpur district headquarters hospital.
Police arrested accused Bhagirathi Mahallick, 46, on the basis of a complaint filed by the couple’s 20-year-old daughter. He will be produced in the court after interrogation, police IIC Manoranjan Das said.
The incident occurred when Bhagirathi hurled acid on her in a fit of anger Saturday afternoon.
Police said Bhagirathi, the son of Dasarath Mahallick, had been suspecting his wife’s integrity. He allegedly tortured his wife physically and mentally at the slightest provocation, the police added.
The couple has four children including two daughters. But, Bhagirathi’s continued suspicion about his wife’s character made matters worse for the conjugal life of the couple. Bhagirathy’s highhandedness increased over the years and he is reported to have tormented his wife and children.
Meanwhile, a seven-member police team led by Jaipatna IIC Dinabandhu Angaria Saturday arrested Parshuram Majhi, 35, an elusive stalker, in Hyderabad after he had thrown acid on a girl at Bankapala under Kalampur block in Kalahandi district, January 15.
