Baripada: A man was killed Sunday while eight others sustained critical injuries after a van they were travelling in was hit by a goods truck from the rear on National Highway-18 near Asanjoda under Kuliana police limits in Mayurbhanj district, Sunday. On being informed, police and fire personnel rushed the injured persons in an ambulance to Pandit Raghunath Murmu Medical College and Hospital (PRMMCH) in Baripada.
Police stated later in the day that they are yet to ascertain the identity of the deceased person. However, they added that injured are from localities under Kuliana and Bangiriposhi police limits. As the conditions of all the injured were quite critical they were shifted later in the day to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack. The mishap occurred when the van carrying passengers was on its way to Baripada from Kuchei. The driver stopped the vehicle on the side of the road for some passengers to get down. However, at that time a speeding truck rammed into the van. The impact was so violent that the van completely overturned, trapping all the passengers under it.
