Man killed after jumping from railway bridge 

Chandbali: A person who jumped from the railway bridge into Manthei river to save his life from the running train succumbed to his injuries at this block in Bhadrak district Thursday morning.

The deceased was identified as Panchanan Bal (52), worked as a labourer under a contractor of Dhamara Port Company, of Haripur village in Mausudha.

He used his cycle to commute till the Bansada ferry ghat, from where he would take a boat to his workplace.

When Panchanan reached the ferry Thursday morning, the boat had already left.

In a bid to reach the workplace, he tried to cross the Bansada railway bridge, a part of Bhadrak-Dhamara railway line.

However, while he was crossing the bridge, he saw a train coming from the opposite direction. In a bid to save himself from being run over by the train, Panchanan jumped off from the bridge.

Unfortunately, he fell into a dry patch of the river and sustained severe injuries.

The locals rushed him to the Bansada primary health centre but he succumbed to his injuries.

Police registered a case of unnatural death and sent the body for post-mortem.
