Bhadrak: A man Saturday bludgeoned his brother-in-law to death after he opposed the former’s fifth marriage, police said. The incident was reported from Saidabad area under Sadar rural police limits in this district.

Police later arrested the accused.

The deceased has been identified as Sakam Khan of the village while the accused was identified as Sheikh Bhalu alias Sheik Sadik.

On receipt of information, police reached the village along with a scientific team and started investigation.

According to police, Bhalu had married four times and divorced all the four wives. He had recently married another woman of the locality. This did not go down well with Khan, brother of Bhalu’s second wife who opposed his latest marriage.

This created a rift between the two. In an act of rage, Bhalu Saturday took a sharp-edged weapon and hacked Khan to death while he was in his house. He then placed the body inside the house and set it on fire along with two auto-rickshaws that was parked near the house before fleeing.

After being alerted by villagers, police arrested Bhalu from Bhadrak. Police suspect the involvement of more persons.
