Puri: A man allegedly killed his nephew and left four members of his wife’s family injured by stabbing them near Tatambari Akhada Mutt in Upara Malisahi area of Puri district, a source said Thursday.

The accused was identified as Nursingha Mohanty.

According to the source, Nursingha launched an assault on his in-laws Wednesday over some dispute.

The accused allegedly stabbed his nephew to death. The deceased was identified as Soumya Ranjan Pradhan.

Additionally, the accused assaulted his wife, mother-in-law, sister-in-law and her husband along with Soumya’s wife. The victims sustained critical injuries and were admitted to a nearby hospital, the source added.

Nursingha fled the spot following the crime.

The husband of Nursingha’s sister-in-law was shifted to a hospital in Cuttack as his health condition worsened.

The wife of the accused Nandini Mohanty said that her husband Nursingha used to beat her up. She had registered three cases against him over the past four years in this connection.

“He also used to threaten my family members”, Nandini alleged.

On being informed, cops from Kumbharapada Police Station reached the spot and launched an investigation into the incident.
