Balikuda: In a shocking incident, a man reportedly killed his pregnant wife suspecting her of infidelity Friday night. The incident was witnessed in Balikuda police limits areas in Jagatsinghpur district.
The deceased was identified as Mamata Swain alias Rinky, wife of Harshavardhan Swain. However, the girl’s family claimed their daughter was murdered over dowry.
Additional tehsildar Siba Prasad Mahapatra and SDPO Manoj Mohant reached the spot and investigated the incident. The body was seized and sent for post-mortem.
According to police, Rinky, daughter of Purnanand Swain, had married Harsavardhan, son of Babaji Swain, June 12, 2015. Babaji’s family resided in Bhubaneswar where his son worked at a jewellery shop.
Harshavardhan had a spat with Rinky after a man’s call came to her phone a few days after the marriage. He beat her up over the phone call and since then there was rift between the couple.
Failing to bear Harshavardhan’s torture, Rinky left for her parental home about three months ago. Meanwhile, Harshavardhan received a message on a social media platform about Rinky’s alleged pre-marital affair with a youth of Dhanuharbelari village.
Suspecting Rinky of infidelity, Harshavardhan plotted a plan to eliminate her. Four days ago, he arrived at his in-laws’ house.
As Rinky was pregnant, he took her for a check-up in the local health centre on a two-wheeler. Harshavardham had also brought a sharp-edged weapon with him without his wife’s knowledge.
While returning from the hospital, he got drunk on the way and hacked Rinky with the sharp-edged weapon. A patrolling police team intercepted him and took him for interrogation.
The matter came to the light after Harshavardhan confessed to have committed the crime before the police. PNN
