Kujang (Jagatsinghpur):The police here detained the father of a woman after her body and those of her three children were found floating in the Mahanadi river near the Shani temple at Jagnnathpur in this block Thursday afternoon. The father was Akshay Sethy, the accused.
The deceased were Mamali Sethy, widow of Biswambhar Sethy, and her minor daughters Varsha (9) and Lipsa (8) and son Guna (2). Biswambhar had died in a road mishap. After the arrest, the police held raids at different places to nab others involved in the case.
A villager noticed the bodies floating in the river while bathing and alerted others in Jagannathpur before passing on the information to the Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force, fire personnel and police. Cops sent the bodies to the local hospital for autopsy. As the victims’ house remained locked for the past few days, villagers had thought the family had gone to some relatives’ house.
Mamali’s brother has filed a complaint with the local police alleging that the family members were murdered to usurp their property. Police is trying to ascertain facts and hence the detention of Mamali’s father.
