Man murders wife after terminating pregnancy

Parjang: In a shocking incident, a man allegedly murdered his 29-year-old wife after terminating her threemonth pregnancy under Parjang police limits in Dhenkanal district. The deceased was identified as Pyari Munda, 29, second wife of Sarama Gaya at Thakurmunda Sahi under Manikmara panchayat of Dadraghati police outpost and Parjang police limits in Dhenkanal district.

The deceased is a native of Pallahara area in Angul district and worked as a casual labourer in Cuttack. She entered into a relationship with Sarama while working in Cuttack and eventually married him three years ago. Police said Sarama was already married and has a wife and child from his previous marriage.

Family members of the deceased alleged that the couple’s marital life was marked by frequent disputes and fights. They further alleged that Sarama had forced the termination of Pyari’s three-month pregnancy a few days ago. Sarama informed Pyari’s mother about her death late Friday night. Deeply shocked, the deceased sister Dina Munda lodged a complaint at Parjang police station February 28. Admitting the complaint, police detained the husband and launched an investigation.

A police team led by SI Sushree Anamika, reached the spot and sent the body for postmortem to the Parjang community health centre (CHC) Sunday. A district forensic team collected samples related to the crime. The SI said further details would emerge after availability of the postmortem report.

A case (132/26) has been registered under Sections 85, 103, 80, 89 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 and further investigations are underway, she added.
