Man performed human sacrifice to get back wife

Balangir: Revealing the motive behind the alleged human sacrifice under Deogaon police limits in this district, police Friday said the accused killed the victim with the belief that his estranged wife would return home. Balangir SP Abilash G. disclosed the details of the gruesome killing at a press conference.

Sahu’s wife had left him several years after their marriage. Distressed by her absence, he reportedly began performing rituals and came to believe that sacrificing a person would please the deities and bring his wife back, police said.

Sahu allegedly met the victim, Santosh Khaserl, 40, of Tapera Munda in Tushura August 18. He took him to Bagada, where the two consumed alcohol near a cremation ground. Sahu later brought Khaserl home, prepared dinner and asked him to stay overnight. After Khaserl fell asleep, Sahu allegedly attacked him with a sharp-edged knife, severing his head. The accused was produced in court Friday.
