Man rescued from power station pipe dies after 44 days of treatment

Cuttack: An elderly man rescued from a concrete pipe by a team of ODRAF and fire officials in a 10-hour operation May 17, died Thursday night after 44 days’ treatment. Pranakrushna Muduli (53) died at his house near Deulisahi in the city.

Pranakrushna, a staff of the pumping station near the state police signal headquarters at Lower Police Colony, had got sucked into the huge concrete pipe when another worker switched on the motor for water discharge.

At that time, Pranakrushna was standing inside a water tank to clear a blockage in the pipe. Unaware of his presence there, the other worker turned on the pump house motor for water supply, following which he was pulled 20 to 25 feet into the pipe along with water.

Soon after the rescue, Pranakrushna had been rushed to the SCB Medical College and Hospital.

Notably, as people across the state kept glued to their television sets keeping track of the rescue operations, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan had expressed happiness over the labourer’s rescue and congratulated the rescue teams for their successful operation.
