Man shot at for coming in way of relationship

Sambalpur: A man had a close shave after he was shot at by a youth who believed the former to be an obstacle in his relationship with a girl.

The bullet struck the man identified as Ganesh Jagdala (39) in his left thigh. Passers-by rescued him and admitted him to Sadar government hospital where his condition was reported to normal after treatment.

After getting information, Sambalpur SP Sanjeev Arora reached the hospital and took stock of the situation. During investigation, the injured person identified the accused as Banti Suna (26) of Stationpada under Khetrajpur police limits.

According to Ganesh, Suna was in a love relationship with a relative of his. However, the family wasn’t too happy with the relationship as Suna was allegedly a criminal and had several cases registered against him.

This infuriated Suna who held Ganesh responsible for informing the girl’s parents of his relationship and also objecting to it. In an act of revenge, he hatched a plan to eliminate him.

Ganesh was on his morning walk Sunday when Suna and an associate on a motorbike approached him. Seeing them armed, Ganesh tried to flee the spot.

However, even as he was running the assailants opened fire and a bullet hit him. Before locals could react after hearing the gunshot, Bunty and his associate sped away.

The SP, Sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) Mihir Panda and other officials reached the spot and started an investigation. A spent cartridge was seized from the spot.
