Rourkela: A well known businessman, who was rendered critical after being shot here in the town in Sundargarh district, died while undergoing treatment late Friday night. He sustained bullet injury on his back and was admitted to Rourkela Ispat General Hospital (IGH) where he was declared dead during treatment, sources said.
He was identified as Ashish Agarwal (32) of Uditnagar Kacheri road Sardar Basti. Police Saturday seized the body and sent it for post-mortem. A case was registered and the body handed over to the family members after autopsy.
On learning the incident, Uditnagar police and DSP reached the spot and launched an investigation. Police seized a cartridge from the spot. Police suspected that the murder happened over a business rivalry,’ Uditnagar IIC P K Dash said.
No exact reason for the rivalry was known yet. According to police, Agarwal resided near Kacheri road with his mother Kiran Devi, uncle, elder brother and two nephews. After the death of his father, he began a weighbridge business and had many rivalries.
On the fateful day, Agarwal locked his house and went for his business after family members went to visit a relative in Bhopal. Later, as usual he closed his shop late in the night and returned home late night.
Meanwhile, miscreants fired a round of bullet that struck Agarwal’s back while he was entering his house.
Being hit by the bullet, Agarwal cried in pain and fell down near the house door. The miscreants fled after locals rushed to the spot on hearing Agarwal’s cry. They rescued him while he was profusely bleeding and admitted him to IGH.
Agarwal breathed his last after doctors failed to remove the bullet that was lodged in his belly after passing through his back.
It may be noted that businessman Maksud Alam alias Bichuati (36) was earlier hacked to death over business rivalry earlier. PNN
