Man thrashes wife, threatens to kill her

Nimapara: An ‘obsessed’ husband allegedly beat his estranged partner and even threatened to kill her. The accused identified as Biswajit Behera of Brahmakundi village under Charichhaka police limits, allegedly threatened to kill his wife Nibedita with a gun at his in-laws’ place in Bhodara village, police said.

According to reports, the accused visited his in-laws’ house Friday evening along with his friend and abused Nibedita verbally for filing a divorce case. Following this, a quarrel ensued between the duo and Biswajit thrashed the woman mercilessly. The accused also pulled out a gun and threatened to kill his wife and father-in-law.

Sources said Biswajit and Nibedita tied the nuptial knot in 2007. However, Nibedita in-laws allegedly harassed and tortured her physically for dowry. Since 2014, Nibedita has been staying with her parents and two years later she filed a divorce plea in the court. This angered Biswajit and he started abusing her regularly over phone.

Based on a complaint filed by the woman, a case (127/18) under Sections 293, 323, 506, 34 of IPC and Arms Act has been registered against the accused, said a police personnel of Charichhaka police station, adding, that raids are being carried out at different places to nab the accused husband and his aide who are still at large.
