Many villages flooded in Balasore

Balasore: The water from river Budhabalanga entered several villages in Balasore Saturday.

Around 100 families of Baincha, Sindhia, Buanl, Gopinathpur, Parikhi, Olandasarangan, Nagram, Dahapada and Haripur panchayats were marooned and communication links to some villages were hit.

Many people have taken refuge in cyclone shelters. Reports said the water level in Budhabalanga, Sona, Gangahar, Jalaka and Subarnarekha rivers is rising.

Drainage division officials said two gates of Kal and Sunei dams in Mayurbhanj were opened Friday to release 1,200 cusecs of water. It has raised the possibility of floods in most parts of Nilagiri, Remuna and Balasore blocks.

Floodwaters entered low-lying areas like Sargan, Rasalpur, Sindhia, Ranasahi, Saun, Digirania, Padhuanpada, Suelpur, Chunabhati, Fakirmohannagar and Sunahat in Balasore.

Budhabalanga is flowing above the danger mark, causing floods in many areas. ODRAF, fire service personnel and the NDRF have reached some flooded areas.

District emergency officer Kamalakant Panda said Budhabalanga waters entered Chunbhati, Talasahi, Darajipokhari, Majhisahi, Uparasahi, Olnadasahi, Balighat pump house, Phuladi, Baincha, Biruan, Nagram, Badanuapur, Dahapada, Kasmila and Kesapur.
