Daringbadi: Maoists in a letter have issued death threat to Daringbadi block development officer (BDO) in Kandhamal district over irregularities in ration card distribution under the National Food Security Act (NFSA).
The matter came to fore after the letter sent by post was delivered to BDO Sunakar Sharma Tuesday. Shocked over the development, Sharma lodged a complaint in the local police station urging the police to conduct a thorough probe into the matter.
In the letter, marked with red ink and issued by the Andhra Pradesh division of the banned outfit, the ultras have charged Sharma with accepting bribe in exchange for ration cards. If he continues to receive for ration cards, the ultras will kill him by slitting his throat, the letter said.
Sharma said ration cards under NFSA are being prepared and issued as per government guidelines.
The police, however, suspect that the incident might be the handiwork of miscreants. An investigation is underway, they said. PNN
