Phulbani:  After a brief lull, Maoists again made their presence felt in Kandhamal district as they murdered a contractor Saturday night.

The deceased has been identified as Kailash Digal, a resident of Damangpadar village of Sumarbandh panchayat under Phiringia police limits.

According to sources, the red rebels suspected him as a police informant.

Late last night, armed Maoists called him out from his home. After hurling abuses, they opened fire at him, leaving him dead on the spot.

Villagers found a Mao poster from the spot this morning. Written in Odia, it reads “You can get bail from jail, but be prepared to face bullets, if you act smart”.

Younger brother of the deceased Kashinath Digal lodged a police complaint with Phiringia police station mentioning that the gang that swooped down on their house comprised about 10 -15 Maoists.

The spot being inaccessible, police were yet to reach the spot at press time. However they were trying to get the body with the help of local residents, it was learnt.
