Maoists set ablaze vehicles in protest against road construction work in Kandhamal district

Kandhamal: A group of Maoists blazed a number of vehicles which were being used for laying a road in the wee hours of Monday at Kanjalagu area under Baliguda police limits in Kandhamal district protesting the construction work here.

The suspected Maoists blazed vehicles including two tractors and a Hyva. They demanded construction work  to be stopped immediately else face dire consequences. Soon after the incident, panic gripped locals of the area who feared loss of lives.

Earlier, Maoist banners were found put up on the main road in Katrigian panchayat under Bisipada Sadar area in the district. It is said that, the banners were released by Communist Party of India (CPI) Maoist KKBN division. The rebels have called for bandh August 18, opposing recent encounter in Kandhamal district creating an atmosphere of tension and panic in the area.
