Padampur, Jan 8: In their attempt to terrorise people on the eve of their bandh call January 8, Maoists torched four construction vehicles at a contractor’s camp in Bargarh district Thursday night, spreading fear in the area.
According to sources, a group of seven Maoists including three women barged into the temporary camp of a construction company owned by Sunil Mohaptra and Pramod Debata near Dubulabahal square under Melachhamunda police station at 11.30 pm Thursday.
The camp was set up for the construction of the Biju Expressway.
The ultras had obstructed the Padampur-Sohela road at Dubulabahal square by felling three trees before their raid on the camp.
According to eyewitnesses, the ultras asked the labourers working in the camp at that time to stop work. They distributed Maoist posters among the labourers and urged them to support the Orissa bandh, called by the left wing extremists January 8. The posters were signed by Orissa State Committee of Maoists.
The ultras then torched an earthmover, a tractor, a vibrator, a hydraulic mixture machine and a drum containing 20 litre of diesel before fleeing the spot.
On being informed, Padmapur sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) Prakash Patra, police station inspector-in-charge Gouranga Sahu and Melachhamunda police station officer-in-charge Lalita Lakra visited the spot and took stock of the situation.
The police registered a case on the basis of a complaint lodged by a camp employee. PNN
