Marital affairs with brother-in-law, man with family try to set ablaze wife to death

Binjhapur: A man along with his family members tried to set afire his wife after she learnt of his illicit affair with his sister-in-law.

In a complaint with the police, the victim claimed that all the family members doused kerosene on her while she was asleep Saturday night and tried to set her on fire. They feared the victim might spill the matter before the villagers and in the fear of public stigma, they tried to kill the her, the complaint stated.

The heinous incident was reported from Samalsahi under Binjharpur police limits in Jajpur district.

According to sources, Priyatama (27), daughter of Madhusudan Nayak had married to Paresh Samal, son of Prabhat Samal.

Meanwhile, Priyatama learned her husband’s illicit relationship with his sister-in-law. Earlier, a complaint also was lodged in this connection by the victim after Paresh forced Priyatama to abort their child.

However, the matter was later solved in the village Panchayat meeting where the villagers asked Paresh to take his wife to Gujarat, who he worked and live there.

Things took an ugly turn Saturday night after Paresh along with his family members attacked Priyatama. They overpowered her and tried to set her on fire after dousing kerosene.

However, Priyatama luckily escaped from the house while her saree caught fire and was burnt. Neighbours came to her rescue and then helped her lodged a complaint with the police.

Based on a complaint, police registered a case and launched a manhunt to nab the accused persons who were absconding since the incident. Police provided another saree to the victim and kept the kerosene doused half-burnt saree for further investigation.
