‘Medical negligence’ claims youth’s life

Bhanjanagar: In yet another example of medical negligence, a youth died allegedly due to lack of necessary treatment at the sub-divisional hospital here in Ganjam district Monday.

Tension prevailed on the hospital premises following the death of Pintu Pradhan of Badapada under Belguntha block. Family members of the deceased along with several villagers staged a demonstration demanding action against the medical staff responsible for the incident.

Police reached the hospital and brought the situation under control. Pintu’s family members lodged a complaint with the police.

According to sources, Pintu’s family members admitted him to the medicine ward after his health condition deteriorated Friday. However, no improvement was seen in Pintu’s condition even after three days of treatment. Later, the on-duty doctor Pranab Patra said there was water content in Pintu’s chest and operated upon him.

However, Pintu’s condition further worsened following the operation. He wreathed in pain but no doctor or nurse came to attend to him despite the pleas of his family members, the complaint stated. Pintu later breathed his last awaiting medical attention, it added.

However, the doctors have refuted the allegation of neglect in treatment.   PNN
