Meghalaya juniors emerge champions

Cuttack: Meghalaya emerged champions of the 51st Junior National Football Championship for boys (Tier II) for the BC Roy Trophy defeating Karnataka 3-2 via tie-breaker in the final at the Barabati Stadium here Thursday.
The match ended goalless in stipulated time despite some aggressive football by both the teams. Both the sides had a couple of chances to score, but failed to utilise those.
The story was the same in extra-time. At that period, it was clear that both sides were playing with the tie-breaker in mind. There was no effort to score with play mostly restricted to the midfield.
In the ensuing penalty shoot-out, Meghalaya could convert three of their five chances, while Karnataka could score twice.
Additional DG of Police Satyajit Mohanty and Orissa Athletic Association (OAA) secretary Asirbad Behera were the dignitaries present and gave away the prizes.
During half time, Football Association of Orissa (FAO) released an audio for the promotion of Federation Cup 2017. “The song ‘Asilare asila Federation Cup, Barabati re chalila Federation Cup’ has been composed and sung by eminent music director Abhijit Mazumdar,” FAO stated in a press release, Thursday.
