Meghalaya, Karnataka to vie for Jr football title

Cuttack: Meghalaya and Karnataka advanced to the final of the Junior Boys’ National Football Championship for Dr BC Roy Trophy (tier-II) after winning their respective matches at the Bidanasi Ground here, Tuesday.
Meghalaya defeated Maharashtra 2-0 while Karnataka thrashed Services 3-0. The final will be played at the Barabati Stadium here, May 4.
In the Meghalaya-Maharashtra game Raikutshisha Buam broke the deadlock for the winners in the 32nd minute. But they failed to convert their chances. Meghalaya then put the issue beyond doubt when Manbhakupar Iawphniaw struck goal seven minutes from time.
Later on the day, a brace from Sudhir Katikela and a goal by S Surya helped Karnataka beat Services. Sudhir scored in the 15th minute and 75th minute and in between a goal by Surya made it an emphatic margin of victory for Karnataka.

Team leave
A 19-member team including a coach left from Bhubaneswar Tuesday for Bhopal for the Hockey India Junior Women National Championship (A Division), May 4-14. Hockey Orissa is placed in Pool-D and will play their first match against Hockey Unity of Tamil Nadu on the inaugural day.

Summer Camp
DAV Public School, CDA has started a summer football camp for its students May 1. The camp will conclude May 10. More than 100 students will be participating in the camp. Former chief coach of the national women’s football team Mohammed Shahid Jabbar attended the inaugural ceremony as chief guest.
The students will be trained by renowned former footballers Vinod Chandra Mulia, Gyana Ranjan Behera, Sambit Nanda and Ashok Sahu.
