Mentally-challenged woman raped, later stabbed in Odisha’s Nayagarh district

Nayagarh: A mentally-challenged woman was allegedly raped and later stabbed by a man in a village under Itamati police limits in Odisha’s Nayagarh district, a source said Thursday.

The family of the victim alleged that the woman was raped and later stabbed by a man called Panda while the victim was asleep on a verandah in the village Wednesday night. The victim’s family accused Panda of committing the crime while he was in an inebriated state.

However, it can be mentioned here that the number of accused in this case has not been ascertained yet.

Following the incident, the severely injured woman was admitted to Nayagarh District Headquarters Hospital.

On being informed, Itamati police station inspector-in-charge reached the hospital and launched an investigation.

The source added that the victim was abandoned by her husband and was mentally-challenged.
