Bhubaneswar, Feb 26: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) Thursday predicted that rain or thundershowers may occur at a few places in interior Orissa from March 1 and said that this may later extend to the coastal region of the state.
The temperature is also likely to go down in the next 48 hours, said IMD, bringing a sigh of relief to the people who have been facing the scorching sun for the past few days.
“Initial observations suggest that a trough line from the northern parts of the country may form over the state in that period and this might trigger rainfall in the state from March 1 to 3. The temperature may also go down subsequently in the following days,” said Met director Sarat Sahu.
The weatherman has also warned that thunder squalls over coastal parts of the state accompanied by hailstorms and gusty surface winds with speeds of up to 60 kmph may occur till Friday afternoon.
The weather office Thursday recorded temperatures of more than 35 degree Celsius in 15 places of the state with the highest of 37.9 degrees Celsius being recorded at Angul, followed by Talcher at 37.5 degrees Celsius, respectively.
The capital and its neighbouring areas will have clear skies Friday, though the maximum temperature may remain around 36 degree Celsius over the city.
