Rayagada, Dec 25: A migrant labourer from Rayagada district was allegedly murdered Tuesday in Kerala’s capital city of Thiruvananthapuram, according to a complaint lodged with Bissamkatak police Thursday by the mother of the deceased.
The labourer who migrated to Kerala for work was identified as Jagabandhu Karkaria (24) of Sanasartili village under Bissamkatak block of Rayagada district. On being alerted by Kerala police, Jagabandhu’s mother Kapan Karkaria along with some villagers informed the police and sought assistance from the district administration to bring back her son’s body. Kapan alleged that her son was murdered by the owner of a bakery at Trishul railway station near Thiruvananthapuram.
Muna, Jagabandhu’s younger sibling, said his brother called him Monday and said he was fleeing Kerala for home as he was being hounded by some associates of the bakery owner. “Jagabandhu said he and another boy from Koraput district were the sole witnesses to a murder committed by the bakery owner. The Koraput boy was earlier killed by the bakery owner’s associates and Jaga said they were now after his life,” Muna said about the phone call that he received from his brother. Muna said Jagabandhu had called him from aboard a train bound for Orissa, but he did not hear from him since.
District labour officer Narendra Raika said the matter would be discussed with the administration and necessary assistance would be extended.
