Bhubaneswar, Jan 15: “Earlier, Maharishi College was known for its incidents of violence. Clashes among student clashes vitiated the atmosphere. I am happy that today the college has got rid of that tag and the students are now concentrating on studies,” said panchayati raj minister Arun Kumar Sahu while addressing the annual day function of the Maharishi College of Natural Law in the city Thursday.
One should stress on acquiring basic knowledge to become a successful person, Sahu told the students of the college. Sahu said that students should follow the teachings of Maharishi and should enrich themselves in this manner.
The minister said that the name of the college signifies that one should abide by the law of nature and not violate it. “To have a healthy and prosperous life we need to follow the rules of nature, which many of us are not doing these days. We need to address this,” Sahu said.
Sahu also inaugurated the annual day function of the Rama Devi Women’s College in the city, where the students enthralled the audience with their vibrant dance as part of a cultural programme held during the evening.
College principal Chitrangada Samantasinghar said that students and staff of the college feel privileged that the institution has been declared the first women’s university in the state.
Major Kalpana Das, a former student of the college, has been conferred with the Rama Devi Saman. The Republic Day Camp (RDC) team of 2014 that bagged the runner’s up trophy and senior under officer Sudeshna Srujarika, who received gold medal in the Republic Day Camp in New Delhi, were also lauded. Several other awards and honours have been conferred on the alumni of the college.
The function was attended, among others, by eminent novelist Shatanu Kumar Acharya, Member of Legislative Assembly Byomkesh Ray.
