Bhubaneswar: Odisha needs a stronger and more coordinated ecosystem for organ donation and transplantation, with greater public awareness and better support for patients and their families, Law, Works and Excise Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan and Health and Family Welfare Minister Mukesh Mahaling said Friday.
Both the ministers attended the launch ceremony of Eternal Gift Foundation’s Odisha mission here. The organisation seeks to make organ donation and transplant support more accessible and meaningful for patients and their families. Harichandan, who attended the programme as the chief guest, said initiatives aimed at creating awareness and supporting transplant patients could play an important role in strengthening the state’s healthcare system. Mahaling, in a virtual address, also extended his support to promote organ donation and strengthen transplant services in Odisha.
The programme brought together doctors, trans plant specialists, patients and their families, social workers, volunteers, donors and other stakeholders working in the field of organ donation and healthcare. The mission is being led by Eternal Gift Foundation Chairman and Managing Trustee Satya Prakash Ray Choudhury. The organisation plans to focus on awareness about organ donation, financial assistance for eligible patients, patient and family support, early diagnosis, rehabilitation and greater coordination among healthcare institutions and professionals.
