Minor accused escapes from police custody in Baripada

Baripada: A minor accused, arrested in a theft case, managed to give a slip Monday to two cops at Baripada in Mayurbhanj district. He escaped while returning from the Juvenile Justice Board Court. Earlier in the day, the police had arrested the 17-year-old in connection with a mobile theft case.

OPF Indrajit Naik and constable Arun Kumar Nayak produced the accused Monday before the Juvenile Justice Board’s Judge Shantanu Kumar Das. The judge sent the accused to Bal Sudhar home but he managed to hoodwink the police while going there.

When contacted, Superintendent of Police Avinash Kumar said action will be taken against the cops for dereliction in duties. Police were conducting raids at different places to nab the accused.
