Minor among 7 held for ganja trafficking

Bargarh/Sohela: Minors are increasingly taking to crimes and joining hands with history-sheeters as police seized 20.7 kg of ganja during smuggling and arrested seven persons, including a minor, during a raid here Thursday.

The accused were identified as Gobinda alias Sana Negi of Bolangir, Chandrasekhar Gond of Sambalpur and currently residing in Gujarati Colony; Satya alias Satender Mishra from Bhojpur district in Bihar; Gajendra Nag and Rupesh Mukhi of Burla and Rohit Chachan of Bargarh. The accused were arrested for allegedly transporting ganja on the Bargarh–Barpali–Sohela road near Panimora Chhak.

Around 20.7 kg of ganja, an Innova Crysta (OD02 AW 0059), a Honda Amaze (OD15A 4011), a laptop, a country-made pistol, three rounds of ammunition, a silver bracelet, a silver chain, Rs 12,221 in cash, two wallets and 11 mobile phones were seized from their possession during the raid. A case (85/26) has been registered at Sohela police station. Six accused were produced in the Padampur ADJ court Thursday, while the minor was presented before the Bargarh Juvenile Justice Board, police said. Acting on a tip-off, police intercepted the vehicles at Panimora Chhak and carried out a search, leading to the seizure, officials said. Four of the accused are reportedly habitual offenders.
