Belpada: A 14-year-old boy sustained critical injuries after a spear he was carrying accidentally pierced his stomach at Aainlabhata village under this police limits in Bolangir district, Sunday. The injured boy was identified as Raju Thanapati, the second son of late Surusingh Thanapati of the village. The incident occurred when he was on the way to his farmland carrying a spear on his shoulder. He stumbled while climbing the walls of his farmland and the spear pierced his stomach when he fell down. He screamed for help as blood oozed out from his stomach.
Family members rushed to the spot and admitted him to the Belpada community health center. There the doctors administered first aid and referred him to Bhima Bhoi Medical College and Hospital (BBMCH) in Bolangir for advanced treatment. His health condition is stated to be critical.
On being informed, Belpada tehsildar Prashanti Pradhan rushed to Aainlabhata village and tried to meet the family members but came back after finding them absent at home. She directed the Belpada RI Golap Kumbhar to hand over Rs 15,000 in financial assistance from the district Red Cross fund to the boy’s family members for treatment. She also asked the RI to take stock of his treatment and inform her accordingly.
Notably, a javelin had pierced through the neck of a Class-IX student during the annual sports meet of Agalpur Boys’ High School in the district December 17, 2022. The boy was immediately rushed to the nearest hospital in critical condition with the projectile sticking through his throat. Later, a team of doctors at Bhima Bhoi Medical College and Hospital in Bolangir managed to remove the javelin after an intense surgery.
