Padmapur: Police Wednesday arrested a man on charges of raping a minor girl while she was returning home from tuition at a village under Nayakanidihi police limits in Bhadrak district Tuesday evening.
The accused has been identified as Kaba Majhi.
According to reports, the minor had gone for her evening tuitions. The accused, believed to be waiting for her, intercepted her while she was on her way back home. He gagged her and took her to an isolated place where he outraged her modesty.
Later, he fled after threatening her not to reveal the incident to anyone.
On reaching home, the girl narrated her ordeal to family members following which a complaint was lodged with Nayakanidhi police.
Acting on the complaint, police swung into action and arrested Majhi who was trying to abscond after the incident.
Police conducted a medical examination of the victim Wednesday and forwarded the accused to court. He was then remanded in judicial custody after the court rejected his bail plea.
