Malkangiri: In a shocking incident, a four-year-old girl’s body was found recovered from an open latrine tank in Botiguda village under Sadar police limits in this district, on the wee hours of Thursday morning.
The matter came to the fore after locals on their way to relieve themselves in the morning spotted the body floating in the tank and informed her family members. The deceased had been missing from Wednesday evening.
While no exact reason of the girl’s death was known, family members suspected it was a clear case of murder. However, some said she might have fallen into the tank while playing with her friends and died. On receipt of information, police reached the village and fished out the body from the tank and sent it for autopsy.
Acting on a complaint lodged by the girl’s father Laxmi Chandra Jani, police registered a case and launched a probe.
According to the complainant, the girl mysteriously went missing from home Wednesday evening at around 8 pm. Family members searched for her and later lodged a missing persons’ complaint at the local police station.
With the help of locals, Laxmi tried to look for his daughter in every locality and also informed Childline officials. However, their search went in vain. Today morning, some locals spotted the minor girl’s body floating in the open latrine tank and informed the cops.
Locals alleged that work on the under-construction tank should be finished as soon as possible in order to avoid any untoward incident. The open tank is located right next to the village field, where kids play every evening, and thus it poses a danger for the community.
