Minor shot over father’s infidelity

Berhampur: In a shocking incident, a six-year-old boy was left battling for life Wednesday after a man shot at him suspecting the his father of having an illicit relationship with his wife. The boy was identified as Ajay Mallick, son of Shatrughan Mallick of Badabhuruta village under Harbhanga police limits in Boudh district. The accused was identified as Jadumani Kanhar from the same village.

Family members admitted him to Phulbani district headquarters hospital. After preliminary treatment, he was shifted to Berhampur-based MKCG Medical College and Hospital for further treatment as his condition got worsened.

According to sources, a previous enmity prevailed between Mallick and Kanhar as the latter suspected him of having an affair wit his wife. In an act of revenge, Kanhar hatched a plan to eliminate Shatrughan. As per his plan, he waited outside Mallick’s house with a gun used for poaching.

Meanwhile, he spotted Mallick’s son outside the house. Blinded by his revenge, he opened fire at the innocent minor boy. He shot two bullets at the boy’s right leg while the third bullet pierced through his left leg. On hearing the bullet shots, the boy fell unconscious on the spot while Kanhar fled the scene.

The bullets were removed after an operation, doctors said, adding that the boy’s condition was still critical. A case was registered against Kanhar by the boy’s family while he was yet to be arrested. Kanhar was on the run after the incident, police said, adding that he would be arrested soon. PNN
