Cuttack: Sixth seed Miracle Panda of Khurda and seventh seed Palak Mohapatra of Cuttack scripted upset victories over their respective opponents in the girls’ segment of the Odisha State U-13 Chess Championships at Sailabala Women’s College here Saturday. Both of them are jointly leading the pack with four points each.
In the fourth round Miracle stunned top seed Yashita Rout of Khurda, while Palak registered a shocking victory over second seed Bijayalaxmi Barik of Khurda.
Six players are sharing the second position with 3.5 points each. Similarly 14 players are jointly occupying the third spot with three points apiece.
In the open category four players are sharing the top position after the completion of the fourth round. Rudranarayan of Puri, Harshit Ranjan Sahu of Cuttack, Manish Kumar of Khurda and Priansh Das of Jajpur are jointly leading the pack with four points each. All of them have won all of their four matches so far.
In the fourth round fourth seed Rudranarayan registered a fighting win over 13th seed Saswat Mallick of Khurda. Sixth seed Harshit got the better of 15th seed Sriansh Das of Jajpur, while second seed Manish Kumar outwitted 11th seed Swapnil Priyadarshi of Khurda. Nith seed Priansh checkmated 18th seed Bikash Kumar Lenka from Khurda.
However third seed Soyamsree Mohanty of Sundargarh played out a stalemate with 10th seed Koustuv Dash of Khurda. Fifth seed Jagdish Barik of Puri played a drab draw with 12th seed Aryan Arnav Samantray of Balasore.
Eight players are sharing the joint second spot with 3.5 points apiece, while 28 players are sharing the third spot with three points apiece.
